The short answer
Goldendoodle insurance cost $22 to $60 a month in our Idaho test for an accident-and-illness plan with a $5,000 annual limit. A 1-year-old goldendoodle was quoted $22.16 by Fetch and $35.04 by Embrace. At age 7, the quotes rose to $35.66 and $59.56.

What the quotes show:
- Fetch was much cheaper, by 37% at age 1 and 40% at age 7.
- A goldendoodle costs less to insure than a golden retriever. At age 7, both insurers quoted a goldendoodle well below a purebred golden.
- Fetch’s price rose less with age for goldendoodles (61%) than for any other dog breed we tested.

How to choose a plan
- Check allergy and ear coverage. These are frequent, ongoing costs. Make sure the plan covers chronic conditions year after year.
- Consider a higher deductible. If you mainly want protection from big bills, a higher deductible cuts the monthly price. On Embrace, going from $250 to $1,000 lowers it by about 42%.
- Ask about size. Mini and standard goldendoodles can be priced differently, so pick the right one when you get a quote.
