The short answer

Siamese cat insurance cost $22 to $52 a month in our Idaho test for an accident-and-illness plan with a $5,000 annual limit. A 1-year-old Siamese was quoted $22.16 by Fetch and $27.94 by Embrace. At age 8, the quotes were $26.14 and $51.04.

The two insurers price older Siamese cats very differently, so comparing quotes matters more than usual. For general cat prices, see our cat insurance cost guide.

What the quotes show:

  • Fetch was 49% cheaper for an 8-year-old Siamese. That was the biggest gap we found for any cat.
  • Fetch barely raised the price with age. Its quote rose 18% from age 1 to 8, compared with 83% for Embrace.
  • Fetch prices Siamese cats below other breeds. At age 8, it quoted a Siamese about 20% less than a Maine coon or Persian. Embrace charged the same for all three.

Common Siamese health problems

  • Asthma. Siamese cats are prone to it, usually between ages 2 and 8. It often needs long-term medication.
  • Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). An inherited eye disease that can lead to blindness.
  • Amyloidosis. An inherited condition where protein builds up in organs such as the liver and kidneys.
  • Megaesophagus. An enlarged esophagus that makes it hard to keep food down.
  • Cancers such as lymphoma and mast cell tumors.

Many of these are chronic, so check that a plan keeps covering a condition year after year once it is diagnosed.

How to choose a plan

  • Compare at the age you will insure. The price gap between insurers grew a lot with age in our test.
  • Enroll early. Asthma and eye problems can be excluded as pre-existing once a vet records them.
  • Check prescription coverage. Inhalers and long-term medication add up. Embrace sells prescription coverage as an add-on.
